Hi! I’m Sara Kate Burnett, a senior at the University of Missouri pursuing a Bachelor of Journalism with dual emphases in Documentary and Photojournalism, along with a minor in Political Science through the MU Honors College.

I’m passionate about visual storytelling and focus on documentary filmmaking, photography and multimedia journalism. I love creating work that informs, inspires, and brings people closer to the world around them. My projects prioritize authenticity, connection and meaningful narrative impact.

I am currently completing capstones for both of my emphases. In photojournalism, I am producing a collection of picture stories and photo essays, working closely with my classmates to develop strong visual narratives. In documentary journalism, I am in a three semester capstone where I am creating a full length documentary film that will premiere before my graduation this May.

My professional experience includes producing, filming, and editing mission driven content for Forever Ready Productions in Memphis, contributing visuals to the Columbia Missourian, and working in live television production with News Channel 3 in Memphis. I have also filmed for the Overton Park Shell Concert Series and produced children’s programming for WKNO TV, Memphis’s PBS affiliate. My short film work was named a finalist at the Indie Memphis Youth Film Festival.

Beyond journalism, I was deeply involved in campus leadership at Mizzou. As a Tri Director for Mizzou Homecoming, I helped lead the nation’s largest student run homecoming celebration and, as Public Relations Director, produced multimedia content, directed photo and video shoots, and managed the official Homecoming Instagram account followed by more than sixteen thousand people. I also served on the University Tour Team and held leadership roles in Kappa Kappa Gamma and the Griffith’s Leadership Society for Women. I closed my involvement at Mizzou as a Mizzou '39 Award recipient, honored among the top thirty nine seniors in the Class of 2026.

 

Based in Columbia MO and Memphis TN, I am seeking opportunities in documentary production, multimedia storytelling, and visual journalism that create meaningful impact.
