VISUAL STORYTELLER
ABOUT ME

Hi! I’m Sara Kate Burnett, a senior at the University of Missouri, pursuing a Bachelor of Journalism with dual emphases in Documentary and Photojournalism, along with a minor in Political Science through the MU Honors College.
I’m passionate about visual storytelling, combining documentary filmmaking, photography, and multimedia journalism to create narratives that inform, inspire, and connect. My work bridges journalism and art, with a focus on authentic stories that drive understanding and empathy.
Currently, I’m completing capstones for both of my emphases. For photojournalism, I’m developing a series of picture stories and photo essays, collaborating with my classmates to produce meaningful visual narratives. For documentary journalism, I’m immersed in a three-semester capstone, where I’m producing a full-length documentary film set to premiere before my graduation in May.
My professional experience includes producing, filming, and editing mission-driven content for Forever Ready Productions in Memphis, contributing visuals to the Columbia Missourian, and working in live television production with News Channel 3 in Memphis. I’ve also created concert media for the Overton Park Shell Series and produced children’s programming for WKNO-TV, Memphis’s PBS affiliate. My short film work was recognized as a finalist at the Indie Memphis Youth Film Festival.
Beyond journalism, I’m one of three Tri-Directors for Mizzou’s Homecoming, leading the largest student-run homecoming in the nation and managing a digital audience of more than 16,000 followers. I also serve on the University Tour Team and hold leadership positions in Kappa Kappa Gamma and the Griffith’s Leadership Society for Women.
Based in Columbia, MO, and Memphis, TN, I’m seeking opportunities in documentary production, multimedia storytelling, and visual journalism that make an impact.
